Cotton Valley Rail Trail Club, Inc.In Rememberance of Harvey Simonds
|
On Saturday, November 7th, 2009
Harvey passed away unexpectedly in Lincoln NH. Among other interests, Harvey was an enthusastic member of the Cotton Valley Rail Trail Club and could be found at many of the Club's events. He was always ready to step forward and get the job done, whether it was replacing a section of rail or even just collecting debris from along the tracks. He served on the Board of Directors and on the Safety Committee. Not only have we lost a club member, but to many of us Harvey was a great friend as well. Harvey... you will be missed. To the left, Mike Heaton captured Harvey in a classic pose. It's hard to find a picture when Harvey wasn't laughing or smiling. This picture was taken somewhere between Concord and Lincoln during the annual NERCA/NARCOA Snowflake run. As usual, Harvey was enjoying a day on the rails with friends. |
Bill and Harvey were best of
friends, and they were almost always up to something with some speeder
project. Their two most well known projects were the restoration of a
pair of MT-14 speeders, powered by diesel engines... now lettered for
the "Sanford and Eastern", and the restoration of Harvey's CP Rail
A-car. From left to right... Harvey poses with his car, somewhere along
the Wolfeboro rails on a brillant fall day. Next, Harvey clowns
around with a Viking construction hat.
Third,
Harvey poses with the MT-14, complete with green diesel fuel tank, on
the legendary Quebec trip. And on the right, Harvey and Jack
work on the A-car, with Bill's bus in the background. |

Above, Ian M captured Harvey doing what he
loved... working hard. On the left, Harvey adjusts the dump cart while
dumping stone on the Ossipee Line. To the right, Harvey studies his
A-Car... planning the next step in the restoration process. More
photos can be found in Ian's Picasa Web
Album. |
On an overcast day, Harvey and Frank H get ready to move their cars
on the Belfast and Moosehead Lake's turntable. |
