On June 23 2018 at 11:00 AM our very own Dennis Heffernan took part in the dedication ceremony of the placement of the very last wooden Boston & Maine Railroad water tower still standing. Dennis was instrumental in finding a home for the ancient tower before it fell to the demolition crews. Several CVRTC club members were in attendance.

Our good (very good) neighbors at the east end of our track, the Wakefield Historical Society, were the recipients of this rare piece of railroad structure history. Prior to the dedication, Dwight Smith (CSRR founder and B&M retiree), gave a presentation called “Before and After”. This is his story about the founding of the Conway Scenic Railroad.

As many club members will remember, Dennis Heffernan in particular, this water tower once stood at Lake Shore Park in Gilford, NH. It was a station stop on B&M owned property along the shores of Lake Winnepesaukee. This was on the Lakeport Branch. That branch line was vacated in 1935. (SPM)
